Welcome to the online portfolio, and blog of me, Richard. I'm going to use this website, primarily to display my projects, and to keep a blog, but also to create a collection of my work in a portfolio. Hopefully to show to potential employers.

I have been making website for about a year and a half now. In the first half year of my web development hobby I started off with very basic HTML, creating templates with table backgrounds. Yes, i know; Very plain and boring! But, after getting very frustrated with the blandness of HTML, and its inability to create dynamic websites; i decided to teach myself PHP and MySQL. I purchased two books that helped me learn the basics of PHP and MySQL. The first was: PHP and MySQL for Dynamic Web Sites: Visual QuickPro Guide - This book is an EXCELLENT investment for anyone who wishes to learn PHP and MySQL together. The second book I purchased was: PHP for the World Wide Web: Visual Quickstart Guide - Again this is an excellent book for anyone who wants to learn PHP with ease.

After learning PHP to a standard that i felt was sufficient enough to start developing websites I went looking for a challenge. From playing the game Medal of Honour Allied Assault I met a few people, one of which contacted me about helping out with a league. I took up the challenge, which proved to be one hell of a challenge indeed. In the first month or so I found it a very hard task to complete. The level of PHP used what to such a high standard it was almost impossible, but I fought on and taught myself as much as I could. After about six months I found myself coping with the task at hand. UFGL.NET now has well over 5500 members and is still growing.
